faq

1) What is the time length of classes?

Our classes vary in duration and length. The Home Coffee Lovers classes are typically 3 hours in duration. Our 1- and 2-day Barista Training sessions are typically full days starting at approximately 9am and ending near 5pm. For our 3-day Professional Business class; we typically start at 9am for all 3 days and conclude at 5pm or close to it. The third day typically concludes at 3pm to allow for travel considerations.

2) If I drive my car, am I able to park near the school?

Yes. There is ample parking at a public garage at 700 Harrison Street which offers a discount to cars parked prior to 9am and out of the lot by 6pm. Our schedule accommodates that setup. There is also parking on the street which uses the Park Mobile App system for payment. We strongly suggest using the public garage as Hoboken’s parking rules and availability are difficult at times to deal with.

3) Is public transportation an option to get to the school?

Yes. Our school is located at 720 Monroe Street which is within a 5-minute walk to the New Jersey Transit Light Rail system (9th Street and Congress Street station). This stop is only 2 stops from Hoboken’s main transit terminal near 1st Street. Please note that weekend schedules may not allow for using the Light Rail from the Hoboken terminal but from other nearby PATH Station stops. The school is within approximately 1 mile from the 14th Street ferry stops which NJ Ferry service uses for boats from the 39th Street pier in NYC. There is a $9 fee for one way, and it takes approximately 15 minutes to cross the Hudson River.

4) If I am attending a full-day class, will food be available, or should I bring my own?

For some of our classes, we do offer a complimentary lunch which will be noted upon your initial signup. You may always bring your own food choices and we do have limited refrigeration space to house your food during the day.

5) What time should I arrive on class day?

It’s suggested to allow approximately 10 minutes prior to class for your arrival. Our facility sits within a large complex which on day 1, students may find some difficulty navigating. Our suggested entrance is at the doorway on the 8th Street side of the complex near the corner of Monroe Street. Upon entrance, the elevator to our space is to the right upon entering and directly in front of the elevator exit on the 5th floor.

6) Are refunds for classes not taken available?

Generally, refunds are NOT available. In the event you need to reschedule a class for yourself, we will try to accommodate your new schedule and allow for a transfer to the registration of the new class provided it has availability and seats open.

7) Is a Certificate offered upon class completion?

Yes. For our Barista Training and Professional Business classes, we will provide a Certificate of Completion from the New Jersey Coffee School after you complete the course(s).

8) Are classes currently offered in any other language(s), other than English?

Yes, we are currently offering our barista classes in the Spanish Language for 1-Day Barista Training – level 1 & level 2.

9) Are consulting or mentoring hours offered after I complete a course?

Currently with our Professional Business class, we offer you two free hours of mentoring or consulting provided you have completed the coursework and received a Certificate of Completion from the New Jersey Coffee School.

10) Are there any pre-requisites to taking any of your classes?

Currently, there are not for most of our classes except our Barista Training – Level 2 Class requires Barista Training – Level 1 as a pre-requisite. Our material and most importantly, our instructors will accommodate all levels of prior experience and knowledge.
