Prerequisite: No prior experience is required.
This 3-Day Professional Coffee Business comprehensive class is recommended for anyone: who is considering opening a coffee shop; who has started the planning process to open a coffee shop; and coffee shop owners who recently opened a coffee shop; want to develop and expand their coffee knowledge and business acumen to understand what it takes to open and operate a successful coffee shop business. This course is also suitable for someone who has experience working in a coffee shop and wants to explore the possibility of opening their own coffee shop, and anyone with food, bakery or retail experience that wants to complement their existing business with a specialty coffee offering.
The business topics covered are extensive and include everything from concept and menu development, equipment planning, site selection, and cafe and bar design to staff hiring and training, branding and marketing, business plan development, and access to capital options. In addition, we will demystify financial information to enable you to use it to your advantage in making critical decisions; provide revenue optimization and expense management benchmarks, strategies and tactics; labor cost control methods; and much more.

Class sizes are kept small, and we provide extensive hands-on training and coaching, working with commercial coffee equipment in our state-of-the-art coffee lab. The coffee topics
covered include everything from espresso extraction, grinding techniques, and milk steaming; to the equipment and skills required to make consistent high-quality hot and cold espresso and non-espresso-based drinks. In addition, this class will provide learnings about bean varietals, processing methods, regional taste and roasting profiles (the bean to cup chain); and troubleshooting for optimal taste.
